I joined the Finclusion team through a referral to work on SureBanker, a neo-banking platform focused on making financial services accessible to Nigerians across different literacy levels and business sizes. SureBanker launched in March 2024, and I joined during its early phase.
On reviewing the product, it became clear that several critical design processes had been skipped, resulting in inconsistent flows, usability gaps, and reduced user confidence. My redesign went live in January 2025.
The challenge wasn't incremental improvement — it required a strategic overhaul to make the product scalable, compliant, and trustworthy.
Key user concerns:

I initially worked with tester feedback comparing SureBanker to existing neo-banking apps. After implementing quick fixes, I proposed a complete redesign of the web experience due to its incomplete structure.
Stakeholders agreed and expanded the scope to include fully responsive web versions, supported by insights showing that users and businesses preferred desktop interaction for serious financial tasks.

To avoid designing in isolation, I utilized results from field testing conducted by the Finclusion team with artisans and market vendors in specific Lagos State markets. These sessions helped validate onboarding clarity and informed decisions for users with varying levels of digital literacy.
The outcome became the official onboarding framework adopted across the Finclusion ecosystem.

I studied multiple neo-banking apps to establish best practices, then created comprehensive user flows for platform onboarding, money deposits and transfers, virtual card management, bill payments, profile management, and referral programs.
Each flow emphasized clarity, feedback, and error prevention.

The earlier dashboard established the core banking functions, but its hierarchy fragmented balances, actions, cards, beneficiaries, and transaction data into competing visual treatments. I redesigned the system around clearer account context, stronger primary actions, calmer supporting surfaces, and one responsive language across mobile and desktop.
The comparison shows the shift from a feature-dense first version to a more legible financial workspace where users can understand their position, choose the next action, and move between personal finance tools with less visual effort.

The core product needed to serve individual users across devices. I designed responsive interfaces that maintained consistency while optimizing for each screen size. Key features included intuitive navigation, streamlined transaction flows, and built-in user guidance through tour guides—a direct response to customer support feedback requesting platform education tools.
A critical feature addition was invoice and proof-of-payment upload, which users relied on for accountability and transaction evidence.

Businesses needed clear separation between personal and business finances. I designed a verified onboarding framework consisting of:
This structure ensured compliance while reinforcing credibility for merchants and registered businesses.

Agents support assisted onboarding for customers who need a more guided path into digital banking. The agent workspace separates overview, customer management, and commissions, while making KYC status and recent activity easy to inspect before an agent takes action.

The Admin Portal functions as the operational backbone of SureBanker.
The portal enabled efficient management of user requests, verification processes, and platform monitoring while maintaining security protocols.

The official card system brings virtual and physical products into one coherent control surface. Card type, sensitive details, freezing, transaction limits, status, and recent activity stay easy to distinguish while preserving a consistent SureBanker identity across mobile and desktop.

A significant part of the design process involved addressing user security concerns surfaced through customer support. Many users were hesitant to provide NIN or BVN information for verification. We addressed this through:
1. Education: Active agents engaged users directly to explain CBN procedures 2. Transparency: Clear in-app messaging explaining why verification was required and how data was protected
Requests to bypass verification were declined, as CBN regulations were non-negotiable, but handled with empathy and clarity.

In December 2025, SureBanker moved to a new design version led by another team member, so the live site now reflects their work. The screens in this case study show my redesign, which went live in January 2025.
I would have pushed for more extensive user research before the initial launch to avoid the need for a complete overhaul. Establishing a regular feedback loop with customer support from day one would have accelerated iteration cycles. Note: SureBanker has continued to evolve since my redesign, with a new design version led by another team member from December 2025.
